Living Planet analysis shows looming ecological credit crunch
The world is heading for an ecological credit crunch as human demands on the world's natural capital reach nearly a third more than earth can sustain. That is the stark warning contained in the latest edition of WWF’s Living Planet Report, the leading statement of the planet’s health. Payment for environmental services publication
Payments for environmental services (PES) is a new term in Vietnam, and it has already received a lot concern from the government as well as different organizations. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) together with Winrock International and GTZ are to carry out two pilot studies of payment for watershed services by hydropower plants in Son La and Da Nhim. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) is helping to govern the integration PES into Biodversity Law. PES activities of WWF Vietnam started in 2006 encompassing projects in the Greater Annamites area. » Read more

A push for 20 new Ramsar sites in Thailand
WWF and the Office of Natural Resource and Environment Policy and Planning (ONEP) are working together to lay the groundwork for 20 new Ramsar sites in Thailand. The plan began with WWF Thailand identifying significant wetlands across the country. These places were chosen for their conservation value and for the way they represent a diversity of habitats, ranging from upland mountain environments to the country’s seacoasts. » Read more

New conservation approach for Mekong Delta
